It doesnt weigh down your hair or leave it feeling stiff or sticky. Its perfect for waves, updos…whatever.

I heart my Bangs!

Bangs have been an ongoing trend for quite some time now. They can take 5-10 years off-which is always a plus…but when you look 5-10 years old…not so much So I went to my hair stylist Robert Santana(hair stylist and owner of Elements Hair Studio, Brooklyn) and he explained that when he cuts bangs he always cuts them longer going towards your temples and leaves them shorter along the middle. I always get complimented on mine(he did them, of course) and I think that may be the trick. When you cut them strait across he thinks they look “too childlike”. He also always cuts them so they lay passed my eyebrows and I personally think those are the most flattering to pull off. I love that when they are longer you can simply part them in the middle and style the back and have an updo…fabulouuussss Try it…the next time you cut some bangs.

Dear Santa..I want a Flat Iron, a Blow Dryer, and Juicy headbands

The Holidays have arrived and I’ve come up with some fabulous gift ideas for that Glamour Girl or Gadget Girl on your list. NOTE: My family and friends- feel free to choose from any of the following ;) This year Sephora has been my one-stop-shop for all of the women on my list…so feel free to join in…

Juicy Couture has its own hair accessories now… the trendy Juicy Loves Sephora Charm Head Bands are really fun($18-20) and they come in three different colors(love the gold) and the Juicy Loves Sephora Hair Elastic ($18.00) dress up a simple ponytail and they come in a set of two- also great as a Secret Santa or Stocking Stuffer…or maybe they just love Juicy

Another great Stocking Stuffer is the Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo($11.00) who doesn’t love a Spray To Go that you can have in your bag for…whenever?! Next on the list…

Every woman needs a great blow dryer- they really do make all the difference. The pharmacy ones are okay but after a few months they start to burn out and damage your hair…but the T3 Pro Dryer are actually good for your hair. On average a blow dryer takes roughly 30 minutes but this blower cuts the time into only a fraction of that! As an awesome gift you can get the T3 Pump Up The Volume ($119) gift set; it even has a spray that increases strength and thickens your hair while you dry it and a barrel brush) did I mention it comes in PINK!

The T3 Mini Flat Iron($119.00) is perfect for your girlfriend(anyone really who loves their hair) who may be a traveler. Its easy-to-use(comes in PINK ) and even good for a first-time-user like for that little sister who wants to be just like you :) Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping!

Ladies…I know I am not alone when I say that I don’t wash my hair everyday, and who wants to? I recently got some bangs cut in and after only two days they looked greasy(no, not cute). I kept going through the hassle of only washing the top (sounds nuts but yes), or applying the baby powder and then going over it with the blow dryer. Lets face it; the more powder you apply the whiter your hair becomes. Luckily I’ve been hearing so much about Dry Shampoo…brilliant…okay so the baby powders has helped me out alot but, this sounds better. There are a couple that I’ve seen around like Fekkai’s Au Naturel Dry Shampoo(23.00 exclusively at Sephora) and even Bumble & Bumble has one that comes in whatever shade you need; although the main star seems to be The All-Nighter($18) Hollywood’s little secret. Rachel Zoe (yeah, love her) says “I am obsessed” and it has been written about in everything from Life & Style to US Weekly! This is the one I am dying to get…I stumbled upon the website and cannot wait to try it out…http://www.theall-nighter.com/index.html This isn’t only a powder but it can also be used as a styling product…and it does the works- it adds volume and absorbs the oil (why didn’t anyone think of this years ago?) Now it’s our little secret too

All you need is hair spray, a portable dryer cap(local beauty supply), plastic rollers(CVS or Rite Aid will do) and your all set…

Step1: wrap your hair around the rollers horizontally along your head and dry under your cap slowly, before the hair is completely dry spritz with hairspray.

Step 2: when hair is completely dry spritz again with spray for extra hold and part your hair (I recommend a deep side part to give a little Marilyn Manroe) For some added shine I like using Garnier Fructise Brilliantine Shine Glossing Spray.

Andrea Pomerantz(editor at Glamour) recommends using a headband…and once I saw this picture of Taylor Swift I was sold… I know I’ll be rockin the ringlets this holiday season

Disgusting is an understatement…OK.. how out-of-control is Daren(owner of Bang Hair Salon)? Wait untill you see what Daren uses as a “conversation piece” with his clients it’s so GROSS; Guy(Hair Stylist at Bang) was even appalled! Can you blame him? LOL My favorite part had to be when Tabatha says that they called the salon “Bang” “because you wanted to shoot yourself in the head”…HAHA and I have to agree. Eww… how about the note over the couch that read “Please do not sit on the couch if you do not have any underwear on” It’s funny to watch but just imagine being a client there..before Tabatha stepped in. I know what I’ll be watching @ 10:00 pm on Bravo…

I Heart Milk(maid braids)

Braids are everywhere…we have seen them on the red carpet, on the runways, day- into- night looks, updos and for good reason-you’ll look effortless and sexy. I heart the milkmaid braids because you can wear them with jeans and a T-shirt or with a gown (believe it or not). There is only one downfall-if you dont have Rapunzel-ish hair this style isn’t going to work. I have tried out a few ways to do this fun look but Ill do my best to guide you through it…

HOW-TO-MILKMAID ‘DO: tools: Bobby Pins; Rat-tooth Comb; Anti Frizz Serum; Hairspray;rubberbands(2 at most)

Step 1: Untangle your hair(this can be done with dry or wet hair) and part your hair directly down the middle of your head with a rat-tooth comb.

Step 2: (Optional) Apply some Anti Frizz Serum (I like to use Garnier Fructise Anti Frizz Serum because it isnt heavy) from roots through to tips.

Step3: Braid one side of your hair, but braid it going in the direction of the opposite shoulder (this is so that there arents any big bumps-the braids need to lie flat on your head when they are both done) and secure the tip of the braid with a rubberband)

Step 4: Do the same to the opposite side of your hair.

Step 5: Next take both braids and going in the direction you braided them…wrap them around your head so that both tips have passed eachother(you can now remove any rubberbands).

Step 6: Now you can tuck each braids- end under the other and secure with bobby pins so that the tips of the braid do not show (if you make the shape of the letter x with your bobby pins they wont bugde all day)

Step 7: (Optional) Apply some hairspray to conceal any stray fly-aways ( I use Tresemme Frizz -Shield Finishing Spray because it doesnt leave hair stiff and sticky)

PS: I only apply hairspray for a night-out for a more polished look

We would love to hear from you…let us know what your favorite braid ‘do is!

My hair has a home...Elements Hair Studio!

Elements Hair Studio (301 3rd Street Brooklyn, NY) is my GO TO Salon for…well…EVERYTHING. I’ve had my hair dyed, cut, styled for a wedding and have even had my makeup done there. The staff is so sweet (really everyone) and you are always greeted with coffee and a snack (always a plus) I like the convenience of the lockers so you have a place to put your coat and bag (and if your anything like the women in my family it’s usually a big one)

I heart ROBERT SANTANA (owner of Elements) he makes my hair feel healthy and look beautiful each time I am in his salon. I have been going to him for about two years now and have been loyal ever since. This national and global artist has been working his magic for over 16 years. He always delivers a fabulous hair cut. I was once inspired by JLO (Jennifer Lopez of course) and wanted bangs; he did such a good job that another hair stylist asked if they were “clip ons” because they looked perfect! Recently I went in before a party and it was pouring rain outside, thankfully Robert not only put my hair in a “dubi”(us latin women wrap our hair up with bobby pins) and under a shower cap but he offered to walk me to the car with his umbrella. I left that salon satisfied and DRY… lol. Hello customer service!

I recommend calling at least one week in advance for him because he is busy but if you go in you will learn why. Since he is the lead stylist you could add roughly 15.00 to each process compared to the salons menu (it’s so worth it).

My mother and sister (Millie-socialbutterflysalon co-contributer) go to Gabrielle for blow outs…and they always leave very happy.

Elements is the salon you go to…when you want to LOOK like you just stepped out of a salon

Check him out …http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1896837706?bctid=14093101001

OMG! Patricia Field's Hair Stylist is Hot, Hot, Hot. Ayumi you rock girl!

FABULOUS…yes..thats the perfect word to describe Ayumi, Hair and Makeup Artist at Hello Beautiful Salon-House of Field (located at 302 Bowery, NYC) on the lower level of the Patricia Field Boutique. What a jem of a salon. We felt as though we had entered a secret passage to hair & fashion heaven! Millie and I had sooo much fun talking with her. She is a totally wonderful looking, Japanese import who has been working there since 1993!

It didnt feel much like an interview because shes so humble and easy going…oh and did I mention the woman is a total fashion forward, hair guru, from head to toe. I mean from her impeccably done hair and makeup to her Vivienne Westwood heels…I wanted a full hair make-over-the-top on the spot!

Ayumi - Patricia Field Stylist

As if we were not gagging at how much we loved her, Ayumi is Patricia Field’s personal hair stylist (I know…AMAZING… THE Sex in the City stylist is Ayumi’s client) and has a full list of other celebrities and music artists…including the Wonder Girls, and yeah remember Deee-Lite, groove is in the heart… I mean the list goes on. Ayumi says many people come in to see her for her cuts & colors (her specialty), they also go to Great Lengths for her great extensions. Umm yes, longer hair is always better, my opinion anyway ADM (Aye Dios Mio) I am out of control!

Ayumi is inspired by traveling, music artists and working inside of one of the most cutting edge fashion hubs in NYC, HELLO Patricia Field people. When we asked about the latest hair trend everyone was asking for in the salon-she responded by saying that all of her clients are so different and unique. No boring, cookie cutter stylist here We heart her and know you will too…

P.S. If you mention our blog you’ll get $10 off your 1st appointment!!! We totally fell head over heels for AYUMI!!!

Call 212-925-2741 to make an appointment and check out www.patriciafield.com for more info.
