Pregnancy Hair Dos and Don’ts

So I am pregnant…and of course along with all of the other changes my body is going through, my hair is changing too! I noticed that pregnant women don’t know what to do with their hair so I wanted to do this post to help out. Check out these Pregnancy Hair Dos and Don’ts and let me know if you have a tip that can be added.

DO:
Part your hair off to the side instead of the middle! This will slim your face.

DON’T:
Cut your hair short. Mid-length hair in long layers is best and most flattering during this time.

DO:
Get highlights instead of regular color. The highlights only touch the shaft of your hair and not your scalp.

DON’T:
Slick your hair back. Instead try a messy up-do or a pretty side pony.

DO:
Treat yourself to a fabulous blow dry/head massage as often as possible, you deserve it!!!

Kristen Stewart definitely looked fabulous when she showed up to the London Fashion Show with her new long, black, hair! Of course sitting next to Kate Moss didn’t hurt

Being that she has captured the lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman, the hair is only part of her costume. For her upcoming movie Snow White and the Huntsman the Twilight actress is going to really look the part and maybe needed the long hair to possibly tone down and make her strong features a little more Fairy Tale-ish. Definitely a great look for her!

I love long, hair and hope more women are inspired and grow their locks our for the Fall…

The Hair Knot!

Great for looking casual chic during the day for for a night out!

Super easy-to-do:

1) First decide where you want the knot.

2) Now create a ponytail on your head in that location with a covered elastic band. Divide your ponytail in two and pull the hair taut.

3) Take a long strand from near the band and wrap it around the elastic band. Bobby pin the strand into place and this will help secure your elastic band.

4) Twist your ponytail to the right from the elastic band to the ends and wrap it around the band starting on the left side of the band.

5) Tuck the ends underneath the knot and secure the sides of the knot with small or large bobby pins, depending on the heaviness of your hair.

I call it the working girl knot… Because I throw my hair up in a knot with my nerdy glasses and get into a groove at my desk. It’s also my sloppy, chic weekend do! Sometimes I even go to bed with the knot and then let it out in the morning for some extra volume!

My favorite is the Rare El’ements El’Treatment ($44). It is a pre-shampoo treatment that you apply to dry hair. You basically just add a 2-3 pumps to your hands and run through from scalp to tips. If your ends are really done, then add a little extra…

Finally you brush through with a boar bristle brush and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Then wash and condition. Your hair will be shiny and healthy looking after only one use. AND I am all about instant gratification!

2011 VMAs Hair Report!

For me it was all or nothin’ when it came to celeb hair dos for the 2011 VMA’s. Lady Gaga was in drag, as a boy and sported a John Travolta in the movie Grease do. I guess that was the only thing left to do lol.

I was all about Beyonce! She really looked fabulous. I especially loved her performance hair do, so 80’s glam. I mean you can’t go wrong with big, long, wavy locks in my book! AND the fact that she is pregnant, made her look even more fabulous…

Then it was pink, large and Nicki Minaj… all over the place with a hair do fit for the Easter Day Parade in NYC for sure! I am sort of over these egg-like wigs Nicki.

Katy Perry was also in Pink hair, but I actually liked it…more than the ginger-blonde do she recently showed up in, anyway. The hair style was perfect the color was a little too Spring time for me, but she looked good!

The most chic dos were on the heads of 2 women (very young women…) Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez! I loved this sophisticated up do on these girls. It was classic and sexy!

This Fall, hair will be piled, braided and half-mooned!

#2 Pile it on Top…of your head! Knots and Buns go on the crown of your head this season. I have always believed it was a little fancier to pile your hair on your head and so did some designers like Ruffian at the Fall 2011 Fashion Show in NYC.

#3 Braids are still in! That’s right, whether you have a side braid, braid your ponytail, or wrap it around your head, braids are still hot this Fall. I love how the Erin Fetherston model pictured above has ribbon in her braid.

Selena Gomez wins 5 @ 2011 Teen Choice Awards and 1 from SocialButterflySalon.com, for best hair of the nite!!! Celebrity Stylist Andy Lecompte was responsible for this young and elegant do. Using Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier and Thermal Image Andy was able to achieve loose waves with volume and shine.

I love Selena’s hair. It is thick and healthy. HELLO the girl is 19, so she had better have healthy hair, but she really does have great stylists too! She is able to maintain her youth and look classy at the same time. You go girl, plus she is a Latina, so I am totally sold

“The last haircut I got was at KIWA salon on 27th Street. First time there… Not bad. My primary reason for going there was that it is basically a Japanese salon. The stylists are all Asian so they understand the difficulties/benefits to the texture of my hair. I went there because I read reviews online that they did a great jobs with perms. YES my hair has a perm in it! I think it was pretty successful! Otherwise my hair is pin straight!

I started growing out my hair in December… Prior to that it was a barber shop trim every two weeks like clockwork. Super short on the side with some length on top to play with… I actually started growing out my hair with the anticipation that I would make it in Design Star this year because I knew if I made the show I wouldn’t be able to maintain the super short look, and didn’t want to look shaggy. Is that crazy? Before I even auditioned for the show I was mentally preparing for the looks of my hair! Talk about OCD with the hair!

I have no idea what my final look is going to be… A Johnny Depp/Michael Hutchence (INXS) kind of look maybe… I want to be able to at least start pulling the top half back with an elastic. I honestly don’t know. I could watch something on TV tonight and chop it all… I’m crazy like that, and LOVE rocking different looks…
